(Because of the witnesses the session was held in our living room. Again traffic noise was quite audible, yet it did not bother any of us unduly, as it had during the last session. Jane began speaking while sitting down and with her eyes closed, in a voice a little stronger than usual, and at a fairly fast rate. Her manner was quite expressive and she used many gestures.)

(Traffic noise had been increasing past the front of our house. Jane’s voice rose to some degree of loudness for the rest of this delivery. Her eyes remained closed.)

It will be our concern here, therefore, to aid the personality to discover and use these resources. I will have more to say concerning the manner in which the organic illness has been accepted by the ego, as a part of the ego’s self-image. This acceptance does indeed take place in that area of the personal subconscious that is closely allied to the ego.

(Still with her eyes closed, Jane resumed at a good rate and in a good voice at 9:25.)

(Jane’s manner had been active even with her eyes closed, and her voice strong. It now became somewhat stronger. She gestured often toward Bill.)

(Break at 9:51. Jane was very well dissociated, she said. Her eyes had remained closed. Toward the end of this delivery her voice had increased in volume, and at times almost boomed out.

(She resumed in the same active manner, still with her eyes closed, and in a somewhat quieter voice, at 10:05.)

(Jane now pointed at Bill, her eyes still closed, then made a passing reference to a discussion we had had at break. She smiled and spoke quietly.)

I will here suggest a short break. We will then continue the session at your convenience, or if you prefer we will close it.

(Break at 10:15. Jane was again “way out,” as she puts it. Her eyes closed, she blinked several times, then came out of her trance. She said her eyes felt heavy when break came. Her delivery had been fast toward the end.)

(She resumed in a quieter voice, with her eyes closed, at 10:27.)

(Jane’s eyes again opened briefly and she looked at Bill. Her eyes were large and very dark. As she spoke now they began to open and close periodically. Her delivery was faster, and her voice was becoming more emphatic, and louder at times.)

(Her delivery had been fast, and it remained so when she resumed, in a quieter voice and with her eyes closed, at 10:55.)

We will then bring our session to a close.

I will here close what can be an extremely productive session. Whether or not it is an extremely productive session will be determined by the personality involved.

(End at 11:03. Jane was well dissociated again. Her eyes had been closed except for the one instance noted. Bill Gallagher said he thought he had noticed a change in Jane’s features, at least in terms of expression, during this last delivery. It was hard for him to describe, he said.

(Jane’s voice had again begun to turn loud, and I wondered whether we would have more voice effects like those of the 158th session. She began to speak more rapidly, and upon occasion let her voice boom out. But these periods were brief, and were quite a bit short of the almost deafening volume she obtained in the 158th session. Strangely enough, her eyes remained closed for most of this closing delivery, opening but once or twice.)

I do however find myself hampered at times, and it is for this reason that I have made my suggestion. I will indeed now close with my heartiest best wishes to you all, and indeed I will endeavor to lower my voice, so that it cannot be said that we are not decorous. But we have been so serious of late, we have dealt with such serious and weighty matters, that I have not had time to make my personality known, or to speak with you as I would wish.

However, I know too well this serious, and may I say mature, nature of your personality, though it was not so in Denmark. So I will, with my best respects, and with some regrets, close our session.
