(Her dentist was so puzzled by her exceptionally good reactions that in the middle of the session Jane had to explain her apparent insensitivity to pain; usually it takes two trips for her to achieve the same results, with the use of Novocain. Today she had no anesthetic of any kind, and in addition her dentist reported he was able to do a much more thorough job.

(The session was held in our small back room, and again Jane spoke while sitting down and with her eyes closed. She displayed no particular voice effects. Her pace was a good one, though not as fast as last session’s.)

I think that you will find this particular session most beneficial. The desire to set yourself apart from emotion, and coolly appraise it, is merely an indication of the ego’s characteristic nature. It tries to separate itself from action, to view it objectively, and to see itself as something apart from action.
