(After this session Jane wrote to Marie in an effort to verify the above statement. The two women have not seen each other for some years, but maintain a desultory correspondence. In her reply, dated October 11, Marie told Jane that she has not been involved in childbirth for two years. She did say that in July she had been on a cruise to Bermuda, in which she, her husband and friends had been on or near the water for about ten days. And at the time of Jane’s dream, Marie said, hurricane Cleo had been descending upon them at Boynton Beach, and “we had plenty of water around then during the storm. It went right through here.”

(Earlier today, feeling somewhat tense, Jane had visited a chiropractor for treatment. While talking with him she mentioned a hard lump that had appeared recently on the inside of her left wrist. It bothered her but little; the doctor stated that it could be an arthritic nodule; seeing that this upset her greatly, he reassured her by saying that it was more likely to be the result of an injury. Not remembering any injurious incidents, Jane came home quite upset.

(As usual in such interesting cases, I could have asked many questions, but settled by seeking to learn whether dreams could be simultaneous; offhand I did not recall ever reading whether such a possibility had been dealt with by investigation. Let alone whether one dreamer could telepathically pick up the other dreamer’s dream!)

The organizing ability grows and potentials become more actual as such particles combine. However all potentialities are latent in each and every unit, regardless of size, and no combinations or coming-togethers are accidental, but are governed by inner principles of organization. All combinations of particles are voluntary, and based upon principles of value fulfillment, which operates within and causes those acts or motions which are conducive to the formation of more complicated gestalts.

Action and counteraction, operating through chemical enzymes, enable purposeful activity in which no motion is haphazard. The smallest imaginable particle gives evidence of that basic unity of energy adopting form, materializing the camouflage pattern necessary for efficient manipulation within your universe, that is composed of diverse but interwoven fields of apparent, semi-apparent, or unapparent activities and correlations. That is, many valid actions within your own universe do not, as you know, have solidity, and yet appear within and operate through the physical universe.

[... 1 paragraph ...]

Effects which appear within your system, discernible by your instruments but without form in some, indeed many cases, represent speeds and velocities of activities or acts that actually have their origin from without your system; but because of their different speed and velocity they can travel through your system, and of course making their impression upon it.

(Break at 9:29. Jane was dissociated as usual, but more toward the middle and end of the delivery than in the beginning. Seth had not yet mentioned the nodule on her wrist, and we agreed that he was probably waiting until she attained a deeper state before he dealt with personal material of this sort.

[... 4 paragraphs ...]

The hand was not injured, that is not knocked as by bunking, but was irritated due to a change of wrist motion occurring when he began to use a second typewriter, which he had not used for many years. The keys are spaced differently. The automatic wrist motion that he regularly uses in his touch typing was knocked askew, the pattern broken, and he used an erratic pressure that induced strain. This caused the irritation and the subsequent nodule.

I would state furthermore that indeed Ruburt did have occasion to be angry at the chiropractor, since with an emotional fear unthinking suggestions such as his, made with only the flimsiest of evidence, can be most harmful and destructive. And in an unwary, emotionally upset personality, particularly if under stress, such a suggestion could cause a harmless and protective nodule to be changed by the strong powers of adverse expectation, or rather expectation poorly used, into the form of what is feared; as a slight but harmless irregularity of heartbeat, with the unthinking suggestion of a doctor, can become through the patient’s fears an actual functional disorder, so could suggestion turn a relatively harmless formation like Ruburt’s into an arthritic condition.

Now obviously the unthinking suggestion alone is not responsible, or would not be responsible, for such circumstances. They would have to fall upon fertile ground; and given great enough emotional and subconscious fear an individual would need no outside suggestion. But those in position within healing professions have great authority, and any suggestions that they may make for good or ill are granted almost mystical validity by those individuals who visit them.

For one thing, individuals who finally visit such offices are oftentimes already emotionally upset. Oftentimes also those in attendance, the doctors or other healers are themselves tired, prone to the patient’s emotional fears, and automatically in self-defense respond by giving voice to the patient’s subconscious dread, picking it up telepathically but feeling it is directed at themselves, on a subconscious level of course.

[... 2 paragraphs ...]

Despite Ruburt’s understanding, his intellectual understanding of his fear of arthritis, he was thrown into an understandable and regrettable emotional state, with which he grappled with at least some success. But you see here what under other circumstances could have been the final straw, so to speak, the word of authority that would say “Your fears are justified.” In such an instance and under certain conditions such an individual would have his deepest dreads, therefore, fastened upon him.

The consciousness of atoms and molecules can be likened to the subconscious as you now know it, in that it is generalized to a large degree, but energy-propelled. You should perhaps realize by now that the inner self, the mind and its components, is composed or forms a unitary force field of its own.

A disease of course is not brought about at any particular point in time, but is latent, and merely becomes perceivable enough to cause danger at what approximates a particular point in time. Psychologically there exists within a given individual the latent leaning toward a multitudinous variety of so-called diseases, these tendencies being picked up through early conditioning and environment.

This does not mean that the individual will necessarily fall ill to many of them, but it does mean that the physical structure has weak points that reflect, or are a result of, an inability along the lines of physical construction, that in turn result from an imperfection in manipulation.

Inner pockets of fear hold back needed energy, creating these weak points in the physical body. Efficiency may be developed through understanding, and through the efficient use of psychic energy. The deficiency is not in the matter itself, but is projected upon it.

[... 2 paragraphs ...]

A rather involved process here occurs. When it is understood that man creates not only matter but his own physical image as well, greater attention will be given so that early fear patterns of such extent will not develop.

I will also go into these matters more thoroughly, but Ruburt’s situation gave us an excellent occasion. It is always wise to take heed, in your own speech, of remarks made pertaining to health or physical appearance, for the higher in esteem you are held by others, the more authority will be given to your suggestions.
