“Seth material” search engine (Jane Roberts)

(At 8:15 PM John Bradley arrived to be a witness. John has witnessed several sessions; with him he brought the first carbon of Volume 1 of the Seth material, which he has been reading. This consists of the first 38 sessions. John now had for us questions on beginnings and endings, inner reality, the inner senses, etc. John is also an indefatigable worker at finding people who are willing to devote free time to typing up extra copies of the material, and he had news for us on this score also. Needless to say Jane and I have been lax in this field, and we are most grateful to John for his efforts.

(It will be remembered that in the 63rd session, June 17, 1964, Seth stated that he could “also see a sort of trouble in September for a woman neighbor who lives three doors down the street from him” in Williamsport, PA, “the difficulty here somehow involving two children... A ‘V’ comes to mind...” See Volume 2, pages 159-60.

(John told us that although he had kept his eyes and ears open for news, he knew of nothing happening to any such neighbor, although as explained through John’s map in the 63rd session, two such women neighbors with children live three doors from him. John had been on vacation for two weeks in September however, and said he may have missed out on something developing. The “V” given by Seth has no particular meaning for him, he said.

The material may be a mixed version of various topics this evening. At our last meeting we discussed dreams and the subconscious. Earlier I mentioned that your concept, distorted concept of cause and effect, led to the idea that all things must have a beginning and an end.

(See the 81st session and the material on the God concept. By now, Jane’s voice had strengthened, although it was not any lower. But she spoke with much expressive determination, using many gestures and smiling often.)

(Seth’s next amused remark refers to Jane.)

The material that I have given you concerning the nature of planes will be quite handy here. I have told you that a plane is not necessarily a planet, nor a place, but even a mere focus of awareness. A dream is an awareness of and existence in another plane, whereby the self changes focus to keep in touch with the various portions of itself so that inner communication can be maintained.

I do not believe that Philip has read the material dealing with the perspective universe, in which the dream is projected into a changing but durable and quite real existence, independent of the dreamer.

I will let you take your break, out of the goodness of my heart, and also so that I might have the benefit of your brilliant conversation between my material. I regret, and deeply, that we must still deal with concepts in terms of words strung out one before the other, for this method serves to reinforce your idea of continuity, cause and effect, past and present, and all such camouflages that I am completely determined to put into proper place.

(Break at 10:02. Jane was dissociated as usual. Again she put her glasses on at break, having delivered the above material without wearing them. My writing hand felt some fatigue.

(John and Bill, Jane and I engaged in a discussion of free will, and in an effort to make some points I was sure the material covered I again became aware of something that was becoming more obvious all the time: namely, that the material has now reached such a length, and has gone into so many subjects, some lightly and others deeply, that I for one can no longer keep all of it on prompt recall.

The personality is on its own, with what you may call the power of self-determination and free will. If you had thoroughly remembered our material on value fulfillment, you would know that the only detriment to so-called free will is the built-in necessity for value fulfillment. The personality must gain experience, in other words, on a particular level of existence, on which or within which it operates, and it cannot choose otherwise. It must experience existence on the particular level on which it has been projected.

No child, no infant commits suicide. It is impossible. The adult who commits suicide has still gained experience to some degree within your plane. This law, the necessity for experience, operates only after complete materialization and orientation within your plane.

A child is not completely materialized upon your plane, nor is he oriented. A personality may refuse to gain such experience before actual birth upon your plane. This necessity for value fulfillment through experience upon a particular existence plane, is the only detriment, if you wish to think of it that way, to free will.

Now. No other commands are built-in, no other prohibitions given. But built-in of course into this necessity for experience, is the compulsion toward value fulfillment, and as you know this does not apply alone to growth, which is in itself a camouflage materialization of value fulfillment along one line only.

Mark should read the material dealing with capsule comprehension, as that portion will answer one of his questions.

My heartiest appreciation for Philip's attempts to have the material typed, and my rather impatient request that Ruburt begin his work of preparing the material for publication.

Again, John said the initial V meant nothing in particular to him, but when he returned home he planned to do what he could to ascertain just what did take place three doors from his own place, to a woman with at least two children, or who is connected somehow with children. I suggested that a visit to his local newspaper back-issue file might be the easiest way to check.

(Leaving, John took with him the first carbon of sessions 24-38, to test out his two female volunteers’ determination in making copies of the Seth material. It is a massive amount of work—I can testify to that personally!)
