Communications such as this must sift through many channels and make many interconnections. We shall achieve important progress this year, I hope, in getting more material through the censorships. I will in no way press for Ruburt to go further than is beneficial for him.
He is also however somewhat anxious to develop his abilities, and if he is to do so we must progress. For future reference, Joseph, and I repeat future, you should not probably need this for awhile, the words “All right Jane, you’re back now,” will always suffice to return Ruburt to his more usual condition.

This procedure, and your consent, will give Ruburt a feeling of trust without which I do not believe he would otherwise proceed. In other words, the situations and conditions will not be out of your hands at any time. Nor shall we necessarily keep to any one procedure. I believe that certain experiments will allow us to get more complete data through censorship.

Nor would I have attempted such a procedure until I knew that Ruburt was ready for it, or at least ready to begin it, for this is but a beginning. He is doing well. This is of course a training period, and he may become momentarily uneasy, but never frightened. It is simply a matter of new orientation, and doing without certain props that are basically unimportant, but practically extremely convenient; such props as the divisions of sensation, fenced in from each other by pickets of minutes.
Clock time is one prop that even in our usual sessions Ruburt is accustomed to rely upon, though not of course to the extent that he relies upon it in the periods of more ordinary consciousness.

There will be varieties of adjustment; this also is to be expected. In the long run this procedure will take less out of Ruburt, and we of course will not exceed our usual regularity. Since we are trying something new I do not know how far we shall proceed this evening, for I do not press for quick, but press for thorough and safe progress. And even now, woe to me if I make a wrong move, for Ruburt would most certainly rise up in arms.

We have proceeded well for a beginning. I suggest you break, not into pieces; and that Ruburt now snap back to himself.

In all respects there must be complete honesty here, and conditions should be reached where there is no fear of ridicule on Ruburt’s part, or fear of lack of successful data, or failure.
All like communications have similar roads to follow, and all such communications must evade censorships. Some distortion of material is bound to occur, and is no reflection upon Ruburt, or indeed myself, and certainly not on you Joseph, but is instead a natural result of the type of communication itself, which attempts to surmount and pass through different fields and many barriers. This of course everything being equal.

Ruburt’s idea of writing down his daily predictions is an excellent one, and will help him develop his abilities. Within a short time Ruburt will give me more freedom, I believe. That is, he will, I hope, allow me to speak with more freedom.
[... 1 paragraph ...]
My fondest wishes to you both. Ruburt may return now, and we will close our session. One note: I hope in the future to be able to add in dimension now and then to our sessions, opening up vistas to Ruburt to illuminate other avenues to complement any given discussion. We have done very well this evening. Indeed, my heartiest wishes to you both.
