(The session did begin in a new way. At 9 PM Jane was sitting opposite me at our living room table, where I take my notes. She took off her glasses as usual, but instead of rising to begin pacing about the room she remained seated. Her eyes were closed, and remained closed whenever she delivered material throughout the evening. Her voice was normal, her delivery rather rapid but with pauses. For the most part she sat with one leg drawn up, an arm resting upon the knee, her hand to her head as though propping it up. She held a lighted cigarette in the other hand.

Clock time is one prop that even in our usual sessions Ruburt is accustomed to rely upon, though not of course to the extent that he relies upon it in the periods of more ordinary consciousness.

(As for myself, I have qualified the approval I gave, making it dependent upon Jane’s own approval. Our approach is cautious, as usual. I do not want to unwittingly push her into anything she does not really want to try. For the moment, then, we have decided to see what comes. If either of us does not like the developments, we plan to return to the method we have been using this past year.

There will be varieties of adjustment; this also is to be expected. In the long run this procedure will take less out of Ruburt, and we of course will not exceed our usual regularity. Since we are trying something new I do not know how far we shall proceed this evening, for I do not press for quick, but press for thorough and safe progress. And even now, woe to me if I make a wrong move, for Ruburt would most certainly rise up in arms.

As it forms new fields of activity then, it increases its own ability for such renewal. The fields themselves are energy potentials. You must recall our discussions concerning fragments. Fragments of this type have all the potentialities of the parent, inner energy. You understand that: the parent, not apparent, energy?

As long as our attempts are completely honest, aboveboard, there is no more disgrace in any distortion of message than there is in a like distortion in usual communication, such as the misreading of a letter.

This should be clearly understood, for our progress depends upon a feeling of trust, and fears of this nature will impede us. You may consider the whole above paragraph stated again, it is that important to us.

This is enough for our initial serious attempt with this procedure. We will have Wednesday’s session as usual, unless it conflicts with your circumstances because of the season. I will understand if this is the case.

One note: I hope in the future to be able to add in dimension now and then to our sessions, opening up vistas to Ruburt to illuminate other avenues to complement any given discussion.
