(Sun. 7/19, 9:00 PM: I experienced a mild thrilling sensation as soon as I lay down. I was perhaps halfway through achieving the desired state when I became aware of my father in my left-center field of vision. In general outlines, I saw him as he sat leaning back in an easy chair, his right leg crossed over his left, and holding up an opened newspaper. My view of him was 3/4 from the back. Father shook the newspaper rather emphatically, then spoke a phrase of several words that I have now forgotten. I tried hard to remember it, and recall repeating it to myself several times in an effort to impress it upon my memory.
(Later, I was watching Jane and my mother. Jane was to my left, Mother to my right. Between them on the wall was a drawing of Jane’s, matted in a gray-white matte perhaps three inches wide. Pointing to the drawing, Mother asked Jane: “Did you do this?” “Yes,” Jane said. Mother then said, “It’s not framed very well. Maybe Dad can do it better.” These quotes are close to being exact, whereas for some reason I cannot remember at all what Father said.
(After this, I experienced a somewhat different version of my thrilling sensation, in my arms from the elbows down, including the hands, and in my legs from the knees down, including the feet. It was stronger in the right leg and foot, equal in the arms. My upper arms and legs were free of the feeling. It was similar to a tight or squeezing sensation, and definite enough so there was no doubt as to its existence.
