I bid you all a fond good evening, and I do indeed have something to say. I do want to comment on your experience and your work thus far. Now, I am a very fine, kind old gentleman, at least in this aspect, so you need not be nervous. I admit that the circumstances, the voice, may make me sound severe. This is a matter of the mechanics.

So you are embarked upon valuable work and experience. You are only beginning to ask the correct questions. Hypnosis is an excellent tool, you are using. It is valuable indeed. As you learn to ask the proper questions, it will become more valuable. You need to grow beyond the concern for the nature of the light. In the terms of which I am speaking, this is not the kind of question. That kind of question will only give you a certain kind of answer, and if you follow that course then you will follow a question-and-answer course, but without learning anything more than a series of questions and answers that have meaning only within a certain limited framework. So you must lead yourselves free of that.

Now I can tell you what the light is, but when I do that, I am a poor teacher, for a good teacher knows how to let others discover meanings for themselves, and that is a part of your experience. Otherwise you would not be working with the light. The question is not, what is the nature of the light? That is one of the important things I wanted to tell you.

(To Edgar) And you must learn also to look beyond your own facade for you believe in it utterly, and yet it is not you. The work you are doing is valuable and can be, but it demands a high integrity of a kind you are only beginning to learn. By integrity, I am speaking of honesty with self that demands you to go beyond the self-deceptions that you accept as your self at any given point.

Now Ruburt is not invaded when I speak. He is not taken over by another, his individuality is not violated in any way, and it is very important for you to realize that and to know it. It will give you confidence in your own work. You are dealing with an old wise experimenter right here, and you saw what you needed to see. Do not categorize your experience. In this instance you saw what you saw when you scanned. That is all you should make out of the situation. The individual is inviolate always.

You must work that out for yourselves. That is an important part of the class framework, and if you are ready to work it out for yourselves you do so. If you are not ready, I will not tell you. This also has to do with other feelings on your parts here (Sue) and here (Maria), to some extent over there (Joel). And as you all know in this room when you feel ready to accept new experience and work it through, you will do so.

([Joel:] “Who were you pointing to when you said that somebody over here had something else to work out. We are not sure.”)
