I was really undecided whether to suggest it to Jane or to you, but you see like I’m kind of at an impasse because, like, there are a lot of words and a lot of concepts and philosophies bandied about, but when you make a claim you know such as that in as specific and nonconfusable terms such as that it would be very simple to demonstrate, and what I was wondering is, either now or at some time when Jane would agree to it, for instance, I brought some playing cards with me, ten cards...”)

Now my dear love. Jane may or may not look into your playing cards. I do not know. That is up to her or to Ruburt. As far as I am concerned, I will not bother. Now we have been through this with keener minds than your own. The claims I make, I make not only for myself, but for you and for each person in this room. You can perceive those playing cards as clearly as I can, and if you will not believe me, you will not believe yourself. When I follow through with such demonstrations, I will do so not in the confines of this room and not under conditions set by you, but in a situation in which the claims are clearly recorded with the results in which there is no possibility that anyone will say suggestion is involved; in which no one will be able to say that scientific principles were not clearly set upon and not to satisfy your curiosity! At one time he was highly interested, and I went along because it was a sort of proof that he found extremely necessary. When it was proven to him, I was satisfied. Whether it is proven, in those terms, to you or not bothers me not one iota. That is your thing. I was satisfied with the matter of his need for proof. When he attained it that took care of my end of it.

You see, you come with demands. Now those who have come open-mindedly to class have found their proofs; and proofs that were not dependent upon cards or showy tricks, but strong proof in that the nature of their reality changed. They understood themselves better. They would relate to the experience that they know. They had experiences that they did not have before, and their mental, psychological and spiritual worlds expanded. And to them, and to me, card reading is an entirely different and inferior product, but while that is what you are looking for you will find yourself at the level that you are now. Without strong subjective proof of your own, without the full ability to travel inward and the doorways to inner knowledge closed until you receive the kind of proof that you are after.

Now, before I let my friends very sweetly and nicely rush to my defense, let me mention that Ruburt also when classes began, made an effort, as our friend over here remembers, to give spontaneous readings which worked very well. This means that they checked out. He quickly found, however, that that was not the answer, that people merely said, “He has the answers, and I have none,” that they projected upon him abilities that they thought they did not possess. And therefore he has changed that policy. Whenever evidential material has been given, my dear friend, and it has been given to help others deal with a problem that was of vital interest, it has not been given as a demonstration, and it has not been given to prove anything to anyone. And now I return you to our friend and we will switch channels.
