¶20

[...] Now if there is any discipline that I would tell you to adapt, it would be the discipline of joy which is spontaneous and from which, initially, all creativity comes. [...] Detachment can be negative or positive according to the reasons that you adapt it. Joy, faithfully followed, can lead you to the inner vitality that dwells within yourself and, hence, to All That Is. [...]

¶22

(To Giovanni) Now I have a brief word that I would like to say to this one over here. Now first of all you are not afraid of psychic reality in any sense of the word. [...] There is nothing wrong with that. It is a stage of becoming. Accept it and do not think necessarily that you must be otherwise, for if you go along with the feelings that you honestly have at any given time, they will become the feelings. If, however, you try to hide them from yourself, then they become like knots that bind you. [...]

¶32

[...] The soul is not a thing that you have. The soul is not the consciousness that you know. The soul is far beyond the consciousness that you presently experience. It is only your own ideas of a limited self that make you think in terms of such a closed soul. There are no closed systems, and there is no end to the growth of the soul. [...]

¶34

I will bid you all a fond goodnight because our friend, Ruburt, is worried about the time. [...] I want you to stop identifying completely with the conscious self that you know, and I want you also to remember that I told you that though physically I may not speak to you individually in class, the messages are given, and I expect you to be expert enough to receive them. So if you feel left out it is only because you have not been aware enough. [...]

¶18

[...] But in the back of your mind you still think that the male holds the position of leadership, and therefore, you resent your own feelings when you try to have the girl behave in that feminine manner. You are trying to order her to be something—a female—when in your heart you wished she was a male, and so when you try to order her about in the dream instead you speak to the brother who is a male, and your words do not make a physical impression. [...] This is involved, therefore, with previous experience that you have discussed and simply means that you need more work along those lines to clear your own feelings. [...] I suggest, however, that you use your own means to probe into those feelings so that you work them out for yourself. [...]

¶25

Now some of the people also attending that class are the strangers that I spoke to you of, and that you know them well in the dream state. You are all so wise when you are sleeping. The abilities that you show are quite your own, and I would like to see you bring them to the surface and use them but then I am certain that you will do so. I cannot always speak to each of you individually, but I do speak to you individually and you should know what I mean by that sentence. [...]

¶5

Now this requires some study and means that you will have to remember your dreams much more effectively than some of you are doing. [...] When possible think of these persons also when you discover them so that in your daily waking life you can receive some more intuitional information as to the kind of work and endeavors in which you are all involved. We want you to become aware of all of your activities, not simply your conscious ones. You are using abilities in that work that you are not using as yet in your conscious lives, and I want you to become aware of what these abilities are. [...]

¶3

[...] People that you have never met physically and probably will never meet, in those terms, but you are involved often as apprentices in joint endeavors and it is time that you become aware to some extent of your relationship. Those that escape you in the dream state. [...] You may also encounter them, however, in dreams that seem to have no great meaning. [...]

¶23

[...] And admit also those misgivings that you have and that rise to the surface of your mind for even those can lead you somewhere. Do not feel inferior because it seems to you that this one (Nadine) is going further or quicker or faster. [...]

¶35

[...] I saw the yawn, and in the yawn there is joy. The yawn is a spontaneous expression of the body and within that there is joy. [...]
