It is not my ego that remains, for I have shed egos as a snake sheds skin. It is my identity that remains and it is your identity that remains. Freedom knows its own control, but not the kind you are thinking of. Spontaneity, indeed, has its own discipline and is never applied from without. It is the other side of the coin. There is no such control, then. Spontaneity knows its own direction and the god is not fearful. Control is a result of fear.

You (this seemed directed to Rachel) have cultivated other gardens. There are joys that can lighten your burden. It is not your ego that you fight, although you have a model of an ego. You fight a memory that lingers on the outskirts of your mind. A transgression already forgiven—a storm already passed—a dark cloud already punctured. Now, you are naturally as free as air. The rest is a facade to hide the memory. Now, consciously you will not understand what I am telling you but unconsciously you will. The transgression has already been paid for. The penance is finished. When you realize that you are free you will be able to enjoy your freedom.

There is no reason to fear your inner selves. It is to your inner selves that I speak. They will not betray you, only betray you with truth and that is an honor indeed. The light will not blind your eyes but open new eyes you do not know you possess, give you freedom you do not know... Only truth will give you a sense of humor.
