It is an excellent idea for Ruburt to tell his arms and legs that it is perfectly safe for them to straighten out, to stretch and flex, and to use their normal capacity for motion.

When I turned her before supper this evening, her right arm moved quite freely and loosely at the elbow.

Now I want you, in the same way, to picture his arms straight in normal position, and follow the same procedure.

Ruburt can picture, mentally, your straight penis, more easily than he can his own arms.

Now when he feels a sense of exhilaration—he knows the subjective feeling I refer to—then have him direct it, that energy, to his arms.

The wind on the arm blows the hair,
And at the base, a golden mole,
Such a speck as a peach might have,
But the hair arches back to show a gaping hole,
And each ounce of flesh is a fence,
Erected roundly and snug
About hidden landscapes, suns, and shadows,
Inroads laced with prickly shrubs.
Peer through. The holes are not big enough to see much,
But dreams travel wondrous wires.
Fires brighter than autumn moons
Throw leaping shadows on the arm.
Days and nights burn like stars
In the twinkling meadows of the skull,
And through the fence of peach-blooming flesh,
Other fruits blossom, beyond reach.
Mountains and hillsides cut through my arm.
Rivers fly past my pulse
Generations of ghosts laugh at my talk
While my tissues burn and go up in smoke.
Two days later, I sat at my desk, idly watching the sunshine on my bare arm, and was suddenly astonished by the miracle of skin.

(After lunch Jane showed me the extra long motion she now has in her right arm — better straightening at the elbow. She said it was even more pronounced in hydro, when she lays flat and has room for the arms to reach farther down.

I have largely explained this before, but the position of the arms, trunk, neck, jaw, head, and ribs were all related. The arms were not just shortened, but only worked in certain restricted positions, where they were relatively reliable.

(For the last several days Jane’s arms, shoulders, hands, rib cage, and related parts have bothered her tremendously—more so than ever.

The encounter with the reporter, for example, on quite practical levels represented a shot in the arm, in that it quickly showed Ruburt that he is quite able to deal with such situations, that he handles them well, and that sense of confidence can then be used as new information to help break down old beliefs of inferiority.

The arms and legs have been activated this week, the ankles and hands also.

In the past two weeks, however, in particular, there were periods when the arms and legs were both changing in their own fashions, so that Ruburt did not feel like walking, while he did feel like exercising.

As Jane wrote then about drawing strength from me by touching my arm, in April 1980 she touched my heart when I found this poem:)
I was walking past the world
one day,
half deciding not to stay,
when I saw you standing there,
ten years ahead of me in time
but so close in space
that I reached out
and touched your arm.
