(Before Seth finished dictating Chapter Two, Jane got from him mentally the heading for Chapter One, and inserted it into this manuscript.)

Since the sections themselves are of unequal length, for a while I contemplated trying a four-and-two division; but as Jane commented, “Three sections in one book are enough of a bite for the reader.” We do think most people will find it more convenient to have “Unknown” Reality presented, with indexes, in two shorter works, whether or not they’re of equal length. Volume 2 will be published a year or so after the first printing of Volume 1. After that initial waiting period, the two can always be read together.

Seth himself said nothing about publishing “Unknown” Reality in one volume, two volumes, or even more, while he was producing it. [...] If you want to divide it into two volumes, that is fine. [...]

I averaged 40 of the sessions, just the parts devoted to dictation, for two things: the time Jane spent in trance only, and her trance time plus relevant break times. [...] For she completed the two volumes of “Unknown” Reality in a total trance time of 90:35 hours, or a total trance-plus-break time of 131:30 hours (sums which translate roughly into times of 45 hours and 65 hours per book). [...]

[...] We thought the new work would probably be a long one, but we hardly expected that it would require publication in two volumes.

[...] I placed it between the usual two pieces of Bristol and sealed it in the double envelopes.

We shall tie these two subjects together. [...]

The two are connected.

[...] There could also be a play on words here, in that Maxine is wearing one of the old-fashioned square-shouldered two-piece suits in style then: Suitable, suit. [...]

(The two obvious points are that the table broke, and that a great force was needed to do this. [...] My estimate is that the third, resisting leg, was perhaps an inch or two off the floor. [...]

[...] The breaking of the table left us delighted and appalled—me especially; and it took me several hours on two succeeding days to repair the table. So much force was used to shatter the table leg that a nail two and a quarter inches long, that I had used in my previous repair bout, was bent at an exact right angle. [...]

(This session will actually report two separate events, lumped together for convenience. [...]

[...] The effect appeared so often that all four of us had ample time to feel it—as noted before, to me this force reminds me strongly of two magnets repelling each other—something invisible yet most palpable, and when things are going well, easily demonstrable.

(Friday morning after writing for two hours, suddenly I felt very sleepy and could hardly hold my eyes open. [...]

(At 10:30 AM, I checked the clock and I awoke at 11 AM, so the following two dreams took place within the half-hour period. [...]

[...] Then I realized that my small transistor radio was at the head of the bed, that the voices were coming out of two speakers on it. [...]

[...] It seems very dark, with two rather than three windows, and the middle one is blocked partially. [...]

[...] Jane had begun delivering the Seth material late in 1963, and soon afterwards Seth started developing his ideas on probabilities.¹ Many times while looking at the snapshots since then I’d found myself speculating about the probable realities surrounding their two young subjects. [...] By now, did those photographs actually depict the immature images of us, the Jane and Rob we knew and had always been, or from our standpoint did they show a probable Jane, a probable Rob — two individuals who long ago had set out upon their own journeys through other realities? [...] For some months we’d known her death was coming, and so had arranged our affairs around that irrevocable event; I spent weeks preparing the final manuscript of Personal Reality for the publisher; Jane conducted her ESP class whenever she could, and worked on her two books, Adventures in Consciousness and Dialogues of the Soul and Mortal Self in Time. She also gave a number of private Seth sessions for the two of us on a variety of subjects. [...]

[...] Two years after we married, she published her first work of fiction, a short story about reincarnation called “The Red Wagon”: It appeared in the December, 1956, issue of The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction [© 1956 by Fantasy House, Inc., New York, N.Y.]. [...] Within the next several years she sold a number of additional stories to the same magazine, as well as two short novels, and also published poetry and a little fiction in other markets.

[...] There is always a reason, and so each parent will represent to each child an unspeakable symbol, and often the two parents will represent glaring contrasts and different probabilities, so that the child can compare and contrast divergent realities … Your two brothers also chose the family situation. [...]

[...] There will shortly be another equally remarkable improvement—another stage, in other words, and this one will be followed in a matter of two months or so by complete recovery —that is, two months after the next improvement.

At one time two classes met certain needs. [...]

At the time, I had just begun two books — an initial draft outlining the ideas in the Seth Material and a manuscript on dreams that I thought of as my “dream book.” It didn’t occur to me that these two manuscripts could have anything to do with the dream interpretation because they were in the present rather than in the future. They were definitely two books, each with its own identity, and covering different subjects.

[...] But then a doctor held up two infants and I thought with a laugh, “Oh, no! [...] Really, this is too much!” — meaning that after having no children, two at once was really something. [...]

[...] Two freight cars fell off the same viaduct that Virginia had seen in her dream but a few blocks south of Gray Street. [...] Two, rather than three, freight cars had turned over, one on its side and one flat.

(These notes will recapitulate two rather surprising events. [...] As the four of us talked for an hour or so two things emerged. [...]

[...] Carol had met an individual named Ron who had visited us here at 1730 two years or so ago—not long after we’d moved in, incidentally. [...]

[...] Let us look at the simple event involving your two visitors.

You have then two separate people living in different countries, completely unknown to each other, of different ages and backgrounds. [...]

Jane, then, wrote those two poems 16 days before she dictated the last session for Seth’s The Nature of the Psyche on April 4, 1977; one month before she began dictating Mass Events on April 18, 1977; two years and two months before she began God of Jane on May 6, 1979; two years and six months before she began dictating the Preface for Dreams on September 25, 1979; two years and eight months before she came up with the idea for If We Live Again on November 15, 1979; three years and five months before she began dictating Seth’s material on the magical approach to reality in Dreams on August 6, 1980; four years before she began dictating Seth’s sinful-self material in that book on March 11, 1981; four years and three months before she began coming through with her own sinful-self information on June 17, 1981; and four years and five months before, on August 26, 1981, she wrote the poem in Note 6 for Session 936 of Dreams: “Something in me / ebbs and tides, / as if I let myself / for a while / be washed away / out to sea / while leaving / some spidery shell / upon the shore /….”

I see that expanse of time (that four years and five months), as being really an emotional bridge between Jane’s poem in Note 6 for the 936th session and the two she wrote in March 1977. [...] For I feel now, in connection with the two “new” poems, the same profound sensations I had concerning Jane’s challenges when I wrote in Note 6: “Perhaps it was her poetic art of expression that helped me identify so strongly with her emotions, but I suddenly felt that even I had never really understood the myriad depths of her challenges and her reactions to them.” [...]

Her consistency of attitude was strongly reinforced for me when, as I put together the notes for this session, I came across two rough, untitled poems that she’d produced on March 19, 1977—four years and eight months ago. [...]

Poem Two

[...] Jane and I spent two hard weeks erasing most of the suggested changes in the manuscript, and it is now headed for the printer for page proofs. [...]

Now if I were you two, making a list of resolutions, my list would include feelings and attitudes. [...]

Two: I will approve of and rejoice in my accomplishments, and I will be as vigorous in listing these—as rigorous in remembering them—as I have ever been in remembering and enumerating my failures or lacks of accomplishment. [...]

Begin the library—the two of you or Ruburt alone if you prefer. [...]

[...] Someone, a doctor, holds up two babies, twins, and I thought, somewhat humorously: ‘Oh no, twins! Really, this is too much.’ By this I meant, after having no babies all these years, now to have two at once! [...]

[...] On another level it represented a knowledge that a future endeavor would at first appear to be two separate endeavors, two separate accomplishments not connected to each other; but on later examination it will be seen that they are unified.

[...] I trimmed down the front page of the wedding announcement of my niece, placed it between two pieces of Bristol and sealed it in the usual double envelope. [...]

[...] Actually, the weather has been so warm that most of the heavy snow received two weeks ago has melted.

(Just before tonight’s session Jane and I had been discussing her excellent results in part two of the 363rd session. [...]

[...] I will also take time to reconcile two points with which he is having difficulty, and to answer any questions that either of you might have since we have last held a quiet session.

[...] The dashes indicate either two words used together, or one word separated by a silence in the middle.

[...] Seth gave us this prediction perhaps two years ago.) Unfortunate expectations and various projections operated here however, but the intuitive background was enough to wipe these out within an instant of your first meeting. [...]

Two children.

[...] Two children and one a male. [...]

[...] And an A, with a large family and a particular picture of the family, old, three girls with large hair ribbons, two boys, several years older, picture taken on porch steps very early 1900’s. Perhaps in a city B or the name begins with B. And a sister, a career woman before this was general practice.

Two brothers.

[...] (Yes to both; Martha’s house.) Two children. [...]

[...] Two children and one a male. [...]

[...] And an A, with a large family and a particular picture of the family, old, three girls with large hair ribbons, two boys, several years older, picture taken on porch steps very early 1900’s. Perhaps in a city B or the name begins with B. And a sister, a career woman before this was general practice. [...]

[...] The doctor who tended her was an old family friend, knew both the father and son, both doctors.) Two brothers. [...]

[...] You do it by realizing emotionally two things: your relationship with everything else that exists and your miraculous uniqueness; and the meeting place between the two is where the self is and you think of the self. [...]

I expect (to Sue and Ned) some greater performance from you two now. [...]

[...] Two in particular in the dream state and one involving him. [...]

[...] There will be, I believe, two boys to join the family. At least she will have two boys.

It is this energy that he must utilize now to finish the two books he has begun. [...]

The therapeutic dream cut short Ruburt’s poor mood by a good two weeks, and the same tactics can be utilized in the future most productively.
