[...] In the session Seth postulates two men, both portions of myself, who represents the conflicting sets of beliefs I’ve carried for years. [...]

[...] The idea, of course, is only to integrate the two often opposing points of view, instead of having them in conflict with each other, since, as Seth says, we always have some practical need of Framework 1 activity. [...]

(My own activities, then, have aroused in Jane the urge to try the same approach, and I’ve suggested she think of her own women numbers 1 and 2. It seems that she confronts the same basic challenges I do, I told her, so she could delineate the two opposing portions of her personality well enough to understand that many of her cultural beliefs have been imposed upon her natural, spontaneous, free, creative self, and to such an extent that the acquired beliefs have turned into detriments rather than aids, that she envisioned as helping her obtain what she wants in life. [...]

[...] He thought that body and mind were two different things, that the body must be controlled for the sake of the mind, that his consciousness existed apart—in his head, say—with its own abilities, while his body had its own pursuits as apart from his own. [...]

(The Seth Two phenomenon began to manifest itself through Jane in the 406th session for April 22, 1968. Seth Two exists in relation to Seth in somewhat the same manner that Seth does to Jane, although that analogy shouldn’t be carried very far. Even though deep connections endure among the three, then, at the same time, as I wrote early in this study, Seth Two is too far “away” from Jane [and the subject matter of this appendix] to go into here. [...]

[...] More on aspects came to her spontaneously at intervals during the next two years. [...] For Part Two of that book I drew 16 diagrams to illustrate her theories.

1. Jane discussed Seth Two rather often in Adventures. I do plan to write at least briefly about Seth Two in another appendix for this Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality, however, the idea being that such material can be taken as an extension of the Jane-Ruburt-Seth study presented here.

“At the same time imagine that these creatures are really one creature, but with definite parts equipped to handle two entirely different worlds. The subconscious, therefore, in this ludicrous analogy, would exist between the two brains, and would enable the creature to operate as a single unit.

(I never did arrive at names for those two militant individuals.) Perhaps both instances are merely my own psychological reflections of present concerns or challenges, although I think that more is involved. Given Seth’s concept of simultaneous time, the best connection I’ve made so far between the two soldiers is that as counterparts of mine they explore questions having to do with authority. [...]

[...] I see my two Romans physically undergoing an exploration of the opposite sides of rebellion or subversion, within the context of a much closer, more oppressive military authority: For whatever reasons, the Roman officer is turned upon and thrown into the Mediterranean to drown (as described in Note 1 for the 715th session)⁷; my Roman soldier, a man of lesser rank, has evidently betrayed his sworn position of trust, and is caught in authority’s vice. I think all of this could be counterpart action, all right, personified by two selves living in the same narrow time period, in close proximity in the same geographical area of the Middle East.⁸

There were two worlds to him instead of one, and he would not apply his intuitions to physical life directly. [...]

[...] There is great leeway in that direction, so that the two can be combined in many many alternate fashions, each particular combination giving you its own unique picture of reality, and determining your experience in the world.

I have taken two contrasting examples of the many ways in which the powers of the imagination and those of the reasoning abilities can be used. [...]

(This afternoon I told Jane I’d like some data on two questions: her weight, and her walking, neither of which had improved. [...]

[...] This will also encourage him as the two of you quite freely discuss all aspects, and he will not harbor worries that he can speak frankly in the context of the conversation.

Guest houses that have bedrooms two stories up, how he can get downstairs, that sort of thing—but he has not expressed them. [...]

When you are involved in such work, it is handy to idly switch back and forth with no particular passage in mind, then often the first passage your eyes fall upon will be precisely seen, and yet its part in the whole also instantly apparent, so that the two visions merge.

(Five weeks ago [in the notes leading off Session 821], I wrote that Jane could resume work on The Further Education of Oversoul Seven — or Seven Two — at any time. She finished her first novel about Seven in July 1972, and within a month, long before it was published, she wrote the first five chapters for Seven Two. Then we became involved in so many other projects that she laid it aside until August 1976, when she wrote two more chapters. [...] But now that her editor, Tam Mossman, has scheduled a visit to us at the hill house in a couple of weeks [on April 10, to be exact], Jane feels that she wants to study what she’s done on Seven Two, go over it with Tam, and perhaps take up work on it again.)

(Since Jane began dictating Mass Events 11 months ago, I’ve mentioned our checking the printer’s page proofs for two of her other books: Volume 1 of “Unknown” Reality, and Cézanne. [...]

(On Friday morning March 29, I told Jane that sometime during the previous night I had awakened with the certain knowledge that I’d just finished having two dreams at once.
