[...] I sent Psyche to Tam Mossman at Prentice-Hall on the 22nd, and on the same day we received from him the page proofs for Seven Two. We spent two days of concentrated labor studying those, and I returned them to Tam on the 24th. [...]

(Long pause.) Now, our friend Aerofranz (Tam Mossman, of Prentice-Hall) is indeed progressing. [...]

[...] Our friend (Tam) is in contact with another layer of his personality, and as I told him over the infernal machine (a humorous reference to the telephone), a dependable layer. [...]

[...] The occasion took place during a call from Tam, in New York City, to Jane in Elmira, at about 9:30 PM, and lasted at the most perhaps five minutes.

[...] So is Tam Mossman, Jane’s editor at Prentice-Hall. Tam was a great help in a number of ways. Beginning with the Spring 1985 issue, Tam published his very interesting quarterly, Metapsychology: The Journal of Discarnate Intelligence, for several years. [...]

(For the record: Seth referred to Tam’s letter in which he informed Jane that Prentice-Hall had granted her a continuation of the old contract terms and royalty rates. [...] Tam also sent Jane a copy of the new Prentice-Hall contract form, but informed her that she can continue to use the old one she’s accustomed to, if she wants to.)

[...] It can hardly be a coincidence that last week, too, we received our copies of Mass Events from Prentice-Hall, along with word from Tam that the controversial book is now being shipped nationwide. [...]

[...] For all of your own regrets and recriminations about Prentice, for example, he was himself pleased by Tam’s letter today, that that bridge toward motion had not been severed. [...]

[...] Tam called Jane to inform her that Eleanor called John Nelson [which Jane already knew] —but that Eleanor and her screenwriter friend had the money to do a movie for Seven. [...] Clare Townsend of 20th Century-Fox called Tam today and asked about seeing the manuscript of Jane’s second Oversoul Seven book, which Jane has just begun typing. [...]

[...] Tam’s letter of today catalyzed her action, however, when he told her that Prentice-Hall had decided to publish Emir through the children’s department. [...]

Tam’s answer is generally a good one. [...]

(At this writing, October 3, Tam has expressed his desire to contract Jane now for Adventures In Consciousness. [...] Tam’s statement was quite unexpected by us. [...]

On April 17, 1968—I got request from a Tam Mossman to do a book on Seth Material, using portions of the best chapters from dream book that deal with Seth.

(Notes: Today Jane called Tam about the continuing hassles over the disclaimer for Mass Events, and learned several important things—among them that the legal department is now “drafting” a letter to us, explaining their position in the matter. [...] Many of these have been derogatory; we now plan to ask Tam for the names of the individual board members, and we want to learn how to write to them to be sure they personally receive our messages. [...] According to Tam, we’re not supposed to know anything about much of what he’s been telling us of the fuss over the disclaimer.

(I’m doing my best to stay out of interfering with Jane’s dealings with Tam and Prentice-Hall. Tam has requested that we send him a letter outlining our position re a competent professional translator of the French Seth Speaks. I was going to do the letter this weekend, but didn’t. I asked Jane if she would write the letter, and she agreed to. [...]

(“Also—Tam’s....esthetic integrity slips in my estimation in what I understand as his own writing intents.” [...]

All of this existed, of course, in a situation in which the aspects of Tam’s position and the Prentice situation were themselves changing and uncertain. [...]

2. This reminded me that before Seth Speaks was even contracted for, Seth told Tam that it would be published.

[...] Did three excellent pages James—and would have done more except for day’s events—called Edna B. about Cézanne; Tam called; Peg called about those nuts; two fans arrived. [...]

[...] While they were here, we received a call from Tam’s secretary, Nancy, who told us that she’d just mailed special delivery Tam’s corrected version of the letter to Ariston that I’d sent him on Monday. [...]

Another accident, a probability, is a future one, involving Tam Mossman’s Eve. [...]

[...] Now a child connected here also, whether with Bill Macdonnel or Tam Mossman I am not sure.

The accident involving Tam’s Eve would take place, if it does, on a day with a five in it. [...]

[...] Tam, with whom I had been corresponding, had to sell the idea to his boss — a woman. Tam asked me if I would consent to having a well-known psychic writer tell my story for me because of the built-in publicity his name would lend. [...] Tam said he had great faith in the book and would continue to work on my behalf. [...]

[...] On April 19, I received a letter from Assistant Editor Tam Mossman, stating that the house might be interested in a book on Seth, utilizing parts of the dream book manuscript. [...]

[...] The dream bothered me so much that I called Prentice and learned that I’d misinterpreted Tam’s letter. [...]

[...] I had always dealt with Tam — who is a man.

[...] She wants to talk it over with Tam. And Tam was interviewed today by Jim Poett who is still tracking down witnesses relative to the article he’s doing on Seth and us for the Village Voice. Tam is to call Jane following the interview, or if it’s too late Jane will call him Tuesday morning—which she did. [...]

(While I was Christmas shopping this afternoon Jane called Tam; he’d just received our disclaimer letter. [...] Tam liked the letter.)

[...] In the short run, our troubles with Prentice-Hall lately, especially those revolving around Tam’s decision to leave Prentice full time, have touched off Jane’s latest poor reactions re her hips and legs. [...]

[...] Tam is due tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, and is bringing with him the copyedited Seven Two, as far as we know. [...]

[...] At certain levels—not all—you resented Eleanor’s visit, and Tam’s, because you wanted so to begin new projects. [...]

[...] Tam has been here and gone, leaving the copyedited Seven Two with Jane. [...]

[...] Jane plans to call Tam tomorrow to tell him what she’s learned, and to ask him to return the first material concerning the Massaris. [She’d also called Tam today before contacting the lawyer and the medium’s wife.]

(Jane was angered by this material [the second batch; I’d already sent Tam the first communication, asking for his help], and decided to call the medium, Thomas Massari, since a number was listed. [...]
