During ESP Class the Sumari, through Jane, told Florence to go look out the middle window, and Sue to look at the door which they did. At the same time Florence and Sue turned and walked toward each other and met in the center of the room. Florence knelt before Sue, and Sue was stunned—for a second. Then Sue put her hand on Florence’s head, and Florence got up and they embraced, and it was over.... Then Sue got the following as a concept in both Sumari and English at once.
(Sue Watkins witnessed tonight’s session. [...] Sue’s unexpected presence is a fine example of how spontaneous events can influence a session in a very creative way — as Sue’s notes, quoted later, will show.
[...] Sue was on the edge of the couch, watching Jane closely as she came out of a deep trance. [...] “A sound goes along with those speeds that I can’t describe,” Sue said. [...] Then when you leave it — “Sue whistled, imitating the Doppler effect of a train whistle receding into the distance.
(Sue said the material had a great deal of meaning for her, and that she now realized that it hadn’t been an “accident” that she’d dropped in this evening. [...] It developed that Sue had begun to experience and formulate some impressions both before and during the session.
(Again Sue watched Jane expectantly as we waited for Seth to return. “Wow, the acceleration’s terrific,” Sue exclaimed; and just before going back into trance, Jane told us she felt the chair vibrating beneath her…. [...]
[...] Sue Watkins was present. During class I read aloud Seth’s material from the 738th session on the Grunaargh family of consciousness,1 which Sue had tuned in to during the 598th session for November 24, 1971. After class, Sue told us that she believed she’d been associated with the Grunaargh family — in Europe — through printing processes dating from the 1400’s, or possibly somewhat earlier. Since Sue herself is a Sumari, like Jane and me, I asked her to write an account of her feelings, thinking it would furnish a good example of one person’s emotional and intellectual involvement with a family of consciousness other than their own — and yes, of their reincarnational memories of those activities.
7. In Session 692 for Volume 1 of “Unknown” Reality see the material on Sue’s double dreams in the opening notes and in Note 2. Personally, at least, I see strong connections between the idea of double dreams and the kind of conscious reincarnational memory — or knowledge — detailed by Sue in this appendix.
(Within the week Sue came through with the following paper, offered in a slightly abridged form and with a few annotations:)
(That was the end of Sue’s paper. [...]
(To resume: Sue Mullin, now Sue Watkins, one of Jane’s ESP class members, left three questions last night for Seth to answer when possible. [...]
(I now asked Seth: “Can you say a little bit about Sue’s first question, about the astral body of the fetus?” Jane had read Sue’s questions some time earlier, but she didn’t know I was going to ask any of the questions this evening.)
(“Does it project when Sue does, for instance?”)
Now I want you here where I can see you for a minute (to Sue). And if all of you will listen, in your own way, you can apply what I am about to say to yourselves though for right now I am addressing these two (Sue and Juanita). [...]
[...] Sue had stated she had an earache.)
(To Sue.) And you must learn also that love is noisy and can be a bother and can get in the way, and you must learn not to deny the validity of your own feelings in those directions where you are now tending to hide them from yourself. [...]
([Sue:] “Then it’s really Sean?”)
[...] Jane sat in her rocker, facing Sue and me on the couch. [...] Sue handed Jane a piece of paper and a pen, while I continued to take notes.
[...] Sue Watkins, a member of Jane’s ESP class and our personal friend, has been very helpful; she has loaned me books on the period so that I could be sure of historical references.
(Next, Jane said she was trying to find a radio and recorder here at our hill house in Elmira so that Sue Watkins, who lives an hour’s drive to the north, could borrow it. [...] In this chassis Jane and Sue were going up and down and around beautiful, jewel-like green hills. [...] Then like a rising sun Jane saw her own enormous face looking down at it all — the jewel colors, Sue and herself, the vehicle.
(Jane didn’t actually see Sue during the experience — she just knew Sue was there, talking to her. Then the trip “got much less clear,” and she was trying to figure out what to lend Sue. [...]
[...] And with Sue?” Sue wrote the two-volume Conversations With Seth.)
Sue represents a certain portion of Ruburt — the writing self, signifying that the “psychic” portions of Ruburt’s personality were helping out the writing portions, and letting them share in the psychic knowledge and experience.
Now, Ruburt has also done the same service for a probable Sue in another system of reality, though in an entirely different way. And you [Rob], incidentally, have helped a probable Carl [Sue’s husband] in the same manner, using his creative abilities. [...]
Sue Meets a Probable Rob and Jane
A few days later, on October 17, Sue had a dream in which Seth described probabilities in more personal terms. [...]
[...] Then I opened the presents Sue had left us. [...] In fact, Jane said, it was a more valid and true statement of reality than the other gift from Sue—After Man, by Dougal Dixon. [...] At first Jane and I wondered why Sue would give us such a book, knowing our views on evolution. Regardless of that, I eventually decided that I was glad to receive the gift, no matter what Sue does or doesn’t know about evolution. [...]
(Now to my surprise, Seth answered a question or two I’d asked Jane earlier today to relay to Sue Watkins — material I could use in my chronology for Dreams. Sue had recently given me some information, and my latest questions are extensions of those.)
3. Tam Mossman was the editor at Prentice-Hall for both Jane and Sue. Conversations With Seth is Sue’s fine two-volume account of the ESP classes Jane held from September 1967 to February 1975. [...]
Tam3 made the decision several times, but early in the game he decided that the book (Sue’s “Conversations With Seth”) should feature illustrations. [...]
(During break we also discussed some topics Sue and Carl were interested in, expecting that Seth would discuss these after break. Sue also wrote out a copy of her dream of Tuesday night, August 26, and gave it to me for these notes:
(Sue Watkins told us that before Seth began answering my question, her unborn child had been very active—kicking, etc, within her. When Seth started to consider the question, the fetus became very quiet, Sue said, almost as though listening ...)
(Carl and Sue Watkins, both members of Jane’s ESP class, were witnesses to the session. [...]
Whether or not Seth actually spoke to Sue in the dream is beside the point here. [...] It’s possible, of course, that Sue’s unconscious adapted an authority figure to get the information about aggression through with greater impact, using Seth as a figurehead. [...]
Let’s consider Sue’s symptoms, caused by explosive and repressed aggression, in relation to Seth’s statements. Sue had been taught as a child to repress emotions, but the time had come when expression was imperative. [...]
Startled, Sue looked up. [...] Sue noted,
[...] Since then, Sue was bothered by the shoulder during a few stressful periods, but she learned that a simple reading of the original Seth dream immediately returned the shoulder to normal once again. These experiences were highly valuable and produced undeniable physical results which last as long as Sue allows for normal release and expression of emotional energy.
(Then Jane remembered that our friend Sue Watkins had had something to do with Seth naming a second family of consciousness shortly after Jane had brought the Sumari concept through several years ago [see Note 10]. But the thing was, Jane mused now, that she didn’t think “Sue’s family” was on the list Seth had just given: “It was something like Gramada, but that wasn’t it….” I made a note to check with Sue, whom we don’t see in every class anymore, since at this time she’s living outside of Elmira; I also want to see what I can find in the sessions, so that we can ask Seth to clear up any discrepancy.
Peter Smith is a counterpart of Joseph’s.8 Sue (Watkins) and Zelda are counterparts of Ruburt’s — or Ruburt is a counterpart of Sue and Zelda.
[...] With one exception — that of Sue Watkins — all the names given by Seth, involving counterpart relationships, have been changed. Most of the people are members of Jane’s class; some have met certain of their counterparts, but not others; Jane, Sue, and I are the only ones who know everyone Seth named. [...]
Sue Watkins, who had introduced Peter to Jane and me in 1973, was involved in the question through her friendship with all of us. It was Sue who verified that several months ago Peter had described to her what he now felt to be the same psychic event I’d tuned in to just a few weeks ago (on December 3, 1974) — only Peter’s experience had taken place in 1967! [...]
(Then in May 1978 Sue Watkins began helping me by typing the final manuscript for the session notes for Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality. [...] Later in July Sue finished typing the notes and started in on the appendixes for Volume 2, just as we received the first books for James. [...] On September 23 Sue delivered the completed appendix material for Volume 2, and I sent Tam each appendix, with its notes, as I checked it. [...]
(Now another event took place in October 1978 that is most important to Jane and me: Sue Watkins received the go-ahead from Tam Mossman to write a book on the ESP classes that Jane had conducted for some seven and a half years, from the fall of 1967 to February 1975. [...] It’s a project that Jane herself never figured she’d do, but wanted done — and Sue, who was a class member, is talented psychically herself, has a newspaper and reporting background, and is ideally qualified for the job.1 (Conversations, we think, is sure to be published before Mass Events, since Tam is supposed to have Sue’s manuscript in hand by January 1980, for publication in the fall of that year. [...]
1. Jane and I had suggested to Sue last month (September) that she write a book on ESP class, although at various times previously the three of us have discussed such a project. Sue took us up on the idea this time, though — and was both exhilarated and terrified when Tam, who was instantly enthusiastic, asked her for an outline and a couple of chapters. “Doing the outline for the book came easily,” Sue wrote for this note, later, “but then I spent the next four weeks in hell. [...]
[...] And then, on the very night when she told me that she thought Seth would resume book dictation, Sue Watkins called with news that it was all official now: Today she’d signed her contract with Prentice-Hall for the publication of Conversations With Seth.)
(To Ned and Sue.) Now, you two are doing very well. [...]
([Sue:] “Did you take us through all three travels yet?”)
([Sue:] “Oh, the one with the concentric circles?”
(To Sue after stating she had a headache.) You are simply upset over the implications of the probable selves and that caused the headache. [...]
[...] This is to you (Sue) in one specific instance, for there is one area in which you do not realize you are projecting. It is to everyone, but it is to you (Sue) in this instance. [...]
([Sue:] “The creation of individual symbols of self is what Dave Zale did in that incident, wasn’t it?”)
([Sue:] “Aware? [...]
([Sue:] “Uh, do you mean that in our terms you were there?”)
(I should note here that last Friday evening we were visited by the Gallaghers and Sue Watkins. [...] Bill and Sue especially got going pretty good, and Peggy said she didn’t like that. [...] Sue was upset. [...]
(I’d temporarily forgotten the dreams about Bill and Sue, although I have them selected for inclusion in Through My Eyes; they’re on file in that notebook. [...] Sue on March 31, 1979. [...] Jane has interpreted the Bill and Sue dreams, and Seth has commented on them also. [...]
(Then while doing the dishes before this evening’s session, Jane said she “got” that Friday night was the “playout” of my dreams involving Bill Gallagher and Sue, which had taken place separately. [...]
[...] The physical events I refer to are the encounters with the Gallaghers and Sue Watkins Friday evening—the discussion of philosophy, the sense of conflict and mixed emotions.
