Now, you are not jolly enough. You are in the habit of carrying these hells and demons around with you, and if you do not watch it you will see them even in the faces of the flowers. (To Stan.) The misunderstand[ing] was not between us. It is that the conscious mind does not understand the unconscious mind and that your conscious mind does not understand that it is frightened of demons and believes in their existence. His mind does not believe in demons, your unconscious mind does. You are not in touch with your own inner beliefs in that respect. Intellectually you have no use for those beliefs but emotionally they are still a part of you.
