(“Yes, I think we have, Seth.”)
[...] Among other things I mentioned that I had intended to ask Seth about schizophrenia sometime. [...]
(Quite often during these sessions, Seth will call for a break just as it seems I could not write any longer without rest. [...]
(Jane now turned off the brightest of our two lights, then opened the blinds as Seth requested. [...]
(Seth dealt with one of John’s past lives and his connection with medicine in an amusing way during the 21st session, of February 3,1964. [...] As soon as the door closed behind John, Seth went into a rather lengthy rundown on him, much to our surprise. [...]
(John agreed with Seth. [...] From what Seth said in the above delivery, John now believes he knows who the individual is who might be passing along information about him.)
(“Good evening, Seth.”
(Seth’s reference to her material on plants concerned some short humorous essays she’d started writing for her own amusement a couple of days ago, in response to some new ideas. [...] If nothing else, she said now, the ideas could find their way into Seth’s material — or else they’d originated in Seth material that was innate within her to start with.)
(Jane had said before the 846th session, which she held a week ago, that she wanted Seth “to get back to” book dictation, and Seth had obligingly given the heading for Chapter 7 at the end of the session. [...]
[...] On Friday, April 6, we received from the production department at Prentice-Hall the printer’s page proofs of the index for Seth’s Psyche, and on Saturday morning the proofs for Emir arrived from Eleanor Friede at Delacorte Press. [...]
(“Good evening, Seth.”)
(It will be recalled that at various times Seth has said that Bill Macdonnel has much natural psychic ability, and that it is largely untrained. Seth stated that Bill was gifted in many lines of psychic ability, among them the perception of apparitions. Seth also stated that Jane and I did not see as much as we might because we were both too “fussy” about what we would allow ourselves to see.
[...] Seth has discussed this dream in considerable detail, without saying much about the opening sequence of the dream. [...] Seth may comment on this in the next scheduled session. [...]
[...] We both remembered of course that long ago Seth had said in no uncertain terms that he was not in favor of demonstrations for demonstrations’ sake, and that he would not perform on call.
(Since the subject had been under discussion for some time by now, so that a certain mood or feeling might be said to have been engendered, Jane remarked that she could feel Seth “buzzing around.” [...]
The session had been an impromptu one, and developed on our last night in Marathon because we’d been worrying about our goals in life, and how significant a part the Seth material might play in our affairs. [...] The Seth Material had been published in mid-1970, but sales were slow, and Seth Speaks wasn’t out yet; we’d just finished correcting the page proofs for that work. [...]
1. When Seth came through with “You get what you concentrate upon,” I remembered that he’d first spoken that sentence some years ago — and that soon afterward I’d made a little paper sign bearing those words and taped it to a wall in one of the two apartments we occupied in Elmira, New York. [...] From our records I learned that I’d taken Seth’s quotation from a personal session Jane held while we were on vacation in Marathon, a resort community in the Florida Keys.
(“Good night, Seth,” I said at 11:59 P.M. I’d expected him to continue for a while longer.)
Seth gave an excellent session for us on that last warm night in Marathon. [...]
[...] I reminded Jane that I think it’s an excellent one, and that I want to type copies for us of the material between 9:15 and 9:36, wherein Seth explains that the intellect needs to realize that it doesn’t have to go it alone, that it is supported and aided by other portions of the self. [...] I also told her I want to quote portions of Monday’s session in Seth’s current book, Dreams.
(This is certainly magical — Jane’s performance as Seth, in the sessions. This note, which I wrote a couple of days later, was inspired by Seth’s material in this session:
(“Seth, of course, not only dictates his magical material — the session — but must keep the whole session in mind while doing so, so that each sentence as he delivers it makes sense compared to its predecessors, and those to follow. [...] Seth has no script to go by, nor can he refer during the session to my own notes to check up on what he’s already said.
(“These comments about Seth’s abilities seem obvious when they’re considered as I’ve just described them, yet I don’t think I’ve thought of what Seth can do in just that way before. [...]
[...] These concern my insight—a simplistic one to be sure—that one of Jane’s hassles results from her fear that Seth would take over if given the chance. [...] Note, however, that I wrote that she feared Seth would take over—not necessarily that he would if given the chance—a big difference. But Seth seems to lay to rest our concerns here this evening. [...]
(I mentioned black and white thinking in the notes, and Seth has also used that phrase several times recently. [...] I’d like Seth to comment.
(Once again Jane said the session would be short; she began speaking for Seth at a good pace.)
(“Thank you very much, Seth.”
1. Seth first mentioned viruses in the 17th session for January 26, 1964, when I asked him to comment upon the recent deaths of our dog, Mischa, at the age of 11, and of a pair of kittens Jane had obtained from the janitor of the art gallery where she worked part time. [...] Seth’s answer to my question was more than a little surprising and saddening to us, and opened up a number of insights:
This afternoon Jane said she’d learned from Seth that we’d come down with those indispositions because we wanted to use our bodies’ immune systems; those structures needed the workouts, in other words. [...]
When Jane began the session her voice was a bit rough and very quiet, but by listening closely I could understand Seth well enough.)
(“Good evening, Seth.”)
(Another point I want to mention in connection with Seth’s material earlier in the session on psychology: His reference on page 3 to “evolutionary science” stems probably from our reading lately an article on Robert Jastrow, an astronomer connected with NASA. [...] A note: Seth gave an excellent answer to Jastrow’s kind of thinking two years ago in either chapter 7 or 8 of Psyche.
(Jane had no questions, relying instead upon Seth to come through with pertinent information about her present physical condition, which continues to show improvement. [...]
(Seth goes into a couple of other topics also, which I’ll do notes for at the time of mention.)
(“Good evening, Seth.”)
[...] I’ve learned some more about the whole situation through the pendulum, and asked Jane if Seth could comment in what I expected would be tonight’s regular session.
[...] Later this afternoon, Jane said that she’d been getting feedback on the book from Seth and that she could have a session....
(“Good afternoon, Seth.”)
(I simply wondered if Seth had any comments. [...]
[...] Jane was a woman medium in Boston a century or so ago, according to Seth, and possessed clairvoyant knowledge of her own death, at 82 or 83, from cancer.
(Following Seth’s recent okay, Jane has begun trying psychological time on a fifteen-minute basis, either in the afternoons or evenings. [...]
(“Good evening, Seth.”)
(“Good night, Seth.”
[...] Today Jane and I sort of disagreed [I think] on what Seth was saying. She seems to think the actual episode of Father Darren chasing her around the bed when she was in that hotel room with him as a teen-ager is changed, whereas I thought Seth meant that the original event remained, but that her psychological understanding of what had transpired changed a good deal. [...]
(“Good afternoon, Seth.”)
(“Thank you very much, Seth.”
(Seth didn’t mention this in his short session of Wednesday, January 11, and I neglected to ask him about it.)
[...] I said I’d forgotten to ask Seth to comment on my feelings about parenthood these days, especially as I’d felt them yesterday when looking at the photos of the aide Sue’s children. Jane suggested I remind Seth to do so tomorrow.
(Jane’s Seth voice was good, as it had been yesterday. [...]
(“Afternoon, Seth.”)
(I said that I was quite aware that Seth had recently said that all actions are eventually redeemed—but what about in the meantime? [...] As I discussed the question Jane said she began to feel Seth around. [...]
(At the same time, on the occasions when she’d come half awake, Jane told herself that she remembered Seth’s material on expressing previously buried fears, and made strong efforts to go along with it by letting the feelings surface where she could encounter them. [...]
(Jane had no questions for Seth. [...]
(“Good evening, Seth.”)
(See page 266 of the last session, concerning Jane seeing Seth’s apparition. I had interpreted Seth’s material as indicating that Jane saw the apparition only while dreaming, and not in the waking state, as she has maintained all along.
(Tonight Jane said she interpreted the data to mean that she momentarily saw Seth’s apparition after waking up, before she switched to usual use of the outer senses. Note that Seth agrees with this.)
(“Good evening, Seth.”)
(“Good evening, Seth. [...]
(Jane was still uneasy and nervous as she waited for Seth to come through. [...] When Seth did come through her voice was quite strong, and free of tremor. [...]
[...] I still want to know what role the sinful self—to use the appellation Seth gave us—plays in all of this, for I’m more convinced than ever that it is still the dominant force behind all of it. [...]
(I remembered that Seth once said that if a dying person decides to live after all, they’ll seize upon the tiniest hope, and respond. [...]
[...] (More fireworks at 8:46, but Seth wasn’t bothered.) These periods involve accelerations, sensed while they may still be invisible, and it is this kind of period that you have just now entered into. [...]
(A note by R.F.B.: This is the first verse of a long poem Jane wrote late in July 1979, as Seth was finishing his work on Mass Events. Among other things, the poem is a passionate declaration of psychic independence, written in response to Seth’s ideas in this book.)
