During class, with the lights on, Rose Cafford suddenly said that she saw my aura. She has been able to see auras for years on some occasions, so has Rachel Clayton, I think. Vera and Theodore were then able to see it; and Sally, everyone but Florence, I believe. Without telling them what I was trying to do, I concentrated on making my aura brighter, saying to myself, fire bright. Almost immediately Rose, Sally and Rachel said that the aura was suddenly extremely bright; did this several times. (I had never seen an aura.) It also changed color. They said that, alone, it was white and quite wide and easily noticeable.
The following is most vivid to the students and happened right after the above. I said I’d try something, without giving any indication of what I would try. Though earlier, as mentioned, I did mention ectoplasm, perhaps several times. I concentrated on doing something to my arms, or having someone else do it. Mentally asked for help, think I had ectoplasmic arm in mind. Instead felt as if fingers of left hand were extending. Sally and Rose said that something was happening to my left hand, which was held out; arm resting on chair rest. (Don’t know if I felt the subjective feeling before or after their comments, but no suggestions as to hand was given by me, and I asked no questions, sitting with eyes closed, concentrating, rather in good trance, but aware of their comments. Sally asked me a direct question, and I couldn’t answer.) Here everyone in the room with the exception of Theodore who was in a poor position, reported the following:
I was in the rocker; all lights on. Then various others sat in the rocker. I personally then was able to see auras on Rachel, Theodore and Sally. Position of onlookers seemed to make a difference. It made no difference where persons were sitting though, when we were looking at their auras. (They didn’t have to be in rocker, for example.)
Then, with shades down and a candle in another part of the room we sat at big green table. I said, “If there’s anyone here, give us a sign,” etc.; mentioned my inexperience with physical phenomena and said that ectoplasm would be great if possible. Now three or four of us definitely noticed a fog or mist in part of living room away from table, deeper in the interior of the room. Some of us had been smoking earlier, not now. Would the smoke show up more in the dark? None was noticeable with lights on earlier, and the mist seemed to move, from one side of the coffee table to the other. Sally said that sometimes she could see a painting on the far wall and at other times the mist obscured it.
He recommended that Sally’s limbs be rubbed with peanut oil, and that iron be added to her diet. [...] In passing he spoke of several episodes in Sally’s present life, some that Jon corroborated in his next letter, and one in particular that he did not know about until Seth mentioned it. [...] Jon didn’t know that Sally had worked in such a place, but her mother remembered.
[...] I’ll call his wife Sally. After coming down with multiple sclerosis, Sally had been given about a year to live, and Jon wanted to ask Seth if anything could be done for her.
[...] Even if Sally can’t be cured, perhaps he could explain things so that her illness would make some kind of sense. Why Sally? [...]
“This time Sally plays that part, and is completely immersed in it. [...] Now Sally loves him, and has learned to see the good points of his personality.
I’m jumping now to an uncle of Sally’s: with a mustache and with an old photo. [...]
[...] All of this describes a photograph of Sally’s grandfather—not uncle; a photo she has not seen until approximately four days before this session.)
(Sally said this described her husband who has married again. [...]
[...] You (Sally), I believe, 1541-1583, a rug-maker, their father—that is, you were their father. [...]
[...] It is a portion that can understand your (Theodore) being overwhelmed with work; it is a portion that can understand your being full with child (Sue); it is a portion that can understand the times when you wanted to leave physical reality (Ned); it is a portion that can understand the part of you (Sally) that wanted to be a star; it is a portion that can understand the part of you that wanted to conquer and is afraid to conquer (Brad); it is a portion that can understand the guilt you (Rose) feel for no reason.
