[...] As I wrote in question 13 some weeks ago now, she has surrendered just about all activity except that involved with getting up and lying down, eating, going to the bathroom on a very limited basis, and puttering about in her breezeway writing room for an hour or so on occasion. She’s managed to get her poetry book out to Prentice, and now is not at work on any writing. [...]

(We haven’t had a session for three weeks now. [...]

Now—

Your feelings presently that Ruburt is on the brink of being bedridden are —mainly now—the results of negative conditioning—they seem very realistic. [...]

(I told Jane now that had my mother received any additional energy during her 50’s, she might have expressed its benefits through the habitual mores of our society, in terms of changes rather than of probabilities, say “My life changed for the better at that point, when I made that decision.” I added that perhaps the important thing for us now was to observe our unfolding lives with Seth’s ideas of the larger, or whole self, in mind, and so achieve insights we could interpret in terms of probabilities. [...]

Now: When I speak of probable selves, of course I am not speaking of some symbolic portion of the personality structure, or using the idea of probabilities as an analogy.

Now: There are basically no limitations to the self, and all portions of the self are connected — so the probable selves are aware, unconsciously, of their relationships.

(I should add that when I realized what the check for the $1,000 meant, I had strange initial feelings of guilt and of rebellion, of being now in a pretty vulnerable position in some strange way, even though the money would help with hospital charges. [...] I now think there will be a variety of strings, in some form or another, and I don’t mean to be cynical in making this observation.

[...] “Now my foot’s going, and stuff,” Jane said, as soon as I mentioned turning her. [...]

[...] Jane’s energy has been high for some time now.

Now: We are nearly at the end of Chapter Four. [...]

Nevertheless in his case an excess, fervent nature has always been in existence, and even now his enthusiasms are extremely fervent, and although a humorous exterior personality now shows its face, nevertheless the extremely authoritative and sometimes too rigid nature holds the personality presently in bounds.

I have explained too often that time is a camouflage, to go into this now. Nevertheless you have done well, particularly this week, in your experiments, and your progress should be fairly rapid from now on.

In Note 1 for Session 939, in this Chapter 12, I quoted myself as telling Jane last December 1 that she hadn’t walked for “two weeks over a year now, I think it is. [...]

[...] No matter that right now our joint reality seems quite opaque to me as Jane lies bedridden. [...]

[...] Unfortunately now I can’t put my hands on Barbara’s scrawled script but will find it and include it here. [...]

(Now approximately six months later, she told me last night that the session had shocked her considerably. [...]

[...] I am now aware of this however, and Seth told me I saved the situation last Saturday evening at Mihalyk’s by asking Jane to dance.)

Ruburt’s dream was excellent, showing that he is now making the best of his past, rediscovering playful beliefs — the trinkets — and sources of pleasure and activity. [...]

[...] Now, after today’s session I read the first session for Chapter 1 of Dreams to her. [...]

(Once again now, Jane was quite relaxed. [...]

Dictation: Now let us return again to our discussion of impulses, in connection with probable actions.

Now, regarding again the nature of action, I would like to discuss action in relation to the dream reality, for you are intimately familiar with action in dreams, and your practical experience will enable you to understand the true nature of action more clearly.

Now basically even the physical universe itself is so constructed, but for all practical purposes, as far as general perception and experience is concerned, time and the physical growth development apply, so that we find the ego portion, particularly of the human personality, is to a large extent dependent for its maturity and development upon the amount of time that the physical image has spent within the system.
