[...] There have been experiments upon your earth (by consciousness) with both men and animals at a different level than just mentioned, but with that in mind — herds of animals, for example, with each animal quite aware of the joint knowledge of the herd, the dangers to be encountered in any individual territory, and a psychological structure in which the mass consciousness of the herd recognized the individual consciousness of each animal, and protected it.

There was a constant give-and-take between the individual animal and the mass herd consciousness, so we are not speaking of a condition in which the individual animal was controlled.

[...] At those times the individual consciousness became so entranced with its own experiences, however, that the clear-cut, steady, and conscious communication with the mass consciousness went underground, so to speak. [...]

Mass Events had been a particularly troubling book for Jane to produce; she’d experienced many long delays in giving the sessions for it. [...] We finished correcting the proofs for Mass Events during our very quiet celebration of the year-end holidays, and early in January I mailed the book to Tam.

[...] That same day, I congratulated her when our first published copy of God of Jane reached us; that excellent book had followed Mass Events all the way through the publishing process. I told Jane that God of Jane is her best book yet, and that I hope it does well in the marketplace.¹⁵ Yet I sadly noticed that the book’s appearance led to another intensification of her symptoms—the same reaction she’d had when we received our first copy of Mass Events 25 days ago. “Yesterday while checking the page proofs for Mass Events I got the feeling that that book really bothered me, served as a focal point. [...] The fact had escaped me earlier that Mass Events represented Seth’s and my direct attack on official dictums—or so it seemed to me. [...]

(Pause, then forcefully:) I am trying to temper my statements here, but your psychology of the past 50 years has helped create insanities by trying to reduce the great individual thrust of life that lies within each person, to a generalized mass of chaotic impulses and chemicals — a mixture, again, of Freudian and Darwinian thought, misapplied.

You have atrocious acts committed, along with great heroisms, but each are explosive, representing sudden releases of withheld energies that have in other ways been forbidden, and so man’s mass psyche expresses itself sometimes like explosive fireworks, simply because the release of pressure is necessary.

[...] En masse and through the methods I have described, you help form a physical reality in which, however, each experience is unique, period.

[...] I planned to resume work on Mass Events this week, but haven’t done so yet. [...] Right now I feel as far away from Mass Events as I did from painting when I wasn’t doing that.

(As I said to Jane yesterday, now that I’m back painting it seems incredible that I ever left it—even though when I chose to concentrate upon Mass Events this summer I thought that was a good decision also. [...]

[...] But the unit selves retain their identity, as in a nation the citizens retain theirs, even though the nation at times may act as a unit, and share particular mass characteristic drives and desires, and work toward various goals.

[...] There is no mass creative act, for all portions of consciousness have their part to play in creativity. [...]

Early in September Tam mailed back to us, for our approval, the copy-edited 484-page manuscript for Mass Events. [...] Along with our other projects—including answering a steady flow of letters—Jane and I spent the month going over Mass Events, accepting some suggestions but rejecting many others. [...] Early in October I returned Mass Events to our publisher once more; it was ready to be set in type. [...]

[...] I mailed the finished manuscripts for Mass Events and God of Jane to our publisher on July 2 and 18 respectively. [...]

When they’re published the reader will be able to see that she touched upon her physical hassles in Chapter 17 of God of Jane, for example, and referred to them in her Introduction for Mass Events. She didn’t actively object when I began to mention them more extensively in the notes for Dreams. But as Seth said in Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality, while discussing her goals in life: “The power of his (Ruburt’s) will is indeed awesome, and he is just beginning to feel it.” [...]

“When you were both intensely involved in your projects (Mass Events and God of Jane), just finished, you let much of your inner experience slide, relatively speaking. [...]

[...] Without for example mass dreams, your United Nations would never exist. This type of mass dream is one of several varieties. [...]

In certain areas of mass shared dreams, collective mankind deals with the problems of his political and social objective structure. [...]

(Since the 863rd session was held three weeks ago, Seth has given us but two regular sessions — both on subjects other than those for Mass Events — and two private sessions.

(According to him, tonight’s session after 9:52 isn’t book material either, but Jane and I are presenting it here because in it Seth returns to questions I’d asked earlier in Mass Events: What about the roles played in human affairs by viruses like smallpox? [...]

Many adults, sensing their own abilities in one field or another, deliberately play down those abilities because they are afraid of standing out from “the masses” — or they are afraid they will be attacked by their peers. [...]

[...] According then to the specific conditions existing at the time, such an individual will to some extent or another act according the mass suggestions he has received.

These mass suggestions include not only those given to him by others, both verbally and telepathically, but also those suggestions that he has given to himself while in the waking or dream states. [...]

[...] Dreams events are not only registered there, but their possible effects upon daily life on an individual and mass basis.
