[...] The writer has obviously learned much from reading the Seth material, and revealed insight as to why he and his lady had chosen to marry to begin with. [...]

[...] In the meantime, here are Seth’s chapter headings for the second volume, to show the direction his material takes:)

When I began putting together Seth’s dictation for Dreams, and adding Jane’s and my own notes, plus excerpts from other relevant sessions, it soon became obvious that the entire work was going to be too long for one volume. [...] At first I was sorry for the reader’s sake to think of Dreams being interrupted, yet glad for myself, for in addition to presenting Seth’s book dictation I was given the space in which to develop those other personal and secular themes of Seth’s, Jane’s, and my own that I think add even more dimensions of meaning to Dreams.

[...] Then this afternoon she picked up from Seth that in a new chapter he’d explain how physical deformities are, among other things, manifestations of the great range of abilities encompassed within our species’ genetic pool, and that we retain such flexibility in case wide changes are ever needed. [...] She thought Seth might comment tonight upon the correspondent’s situation.

[...] At the same time I was thinking over Seth’s material in this session so far. I remarked to Jane that if we paid attention to that material, then instead of turning away the people who would be influenced by the newspaper notice, we might be able to influence some of them to buy Seth/Jane’s books.

[...] I did think that practically all of our unannounced visitors were young people because the Seth material attracted them much more easily than older generations. [...]

(As we sat for the session on Sunday night, I read last night’s material to Jane. A few moments later, when he came through Seth took up where he’d left off in mid-sentence:)

(Seth Two is dealt with at length in Chapter Seventeen of Jane’s book The Seth Material. [...] In the outline Seth gave for this book before dictation began, we were told that Seth Two would be explained. Some of our questions for Chapter Twenty had concerned Seth Two also. [...]

[...] Some have been given in Ruburt’s class sessions, and some, though few, have appeared in The Seth Material itself.

[...] I now watched a transformation begin to take place in Jane, as our familiar Seth retreated and Seth Two began to come to the fore. [...] Jane has often told me that whereas she feels Seth come to her in a very warm and alive and friendly manner, she feels her consciousness going out of herself to meet Seth Two — “up the invisible pyramid like a draft up a flue.” [...]

(At this writing we do not know which pope Seth referred to. When I came to type up this session I wondered if Seth-Jane’s mention of the third century might be an error. [If so, I hadn’t been quick enough to catch it; I could have asked about it at once.] Since Seth gave A.D. 300 in the class session for last May, I personally think it more likely that his papal incarnation followed this date, taking place in the fourth century. [...]

[...] I reminded Jane that I think it’s an excellent one, and that I want to type copies for us of the material between 9:15 and 9:36, wherein Seth explains that the intellect needs to realize that it doesn’t have to go it alone, that it is supported and aided by other portions of the self. [...] I also told her I want to quote portions of Monday’s session in Seth’s current book, Dreams.

(This is certainly magical — Jane’s performance as Seth, in the sessions. This note, which I wrote a couple of days later, was inspired by Seth’s material in this session:

(“Seth, of course, not only dictates his magical material — the session — but must keep the whole session in mind while doing so, so that each sentence as he delivers it makes sense compared to its predecessors, and those to follow. [...] Seth has no script to go by, nor can he refer during the session to my own notes to check up on what he’s already said.

(“These comments about Seth’s abilities seem obvious when they’re considered as I’ve just described them, yet I don’t think I’ve thought of what Seth can do in just that way before. [...] See the material after 9:44 in the session of August 13, about the intellect and the ‘undisciplined and unreasonable’ intuitions. [...]

[...] As this information — the Seth material — is sifted through Ruburt’s experience, you are able to see how it applies to the existence that is “presently” yours.

(Sessions 760-61 were devoted to separate topics that Seth has been developing apart from his regular book dictation for Psyche.

[...] I think all of this psychic stuff that I’m half aware of has to be organized and expressed in our world — Seth, Cézanne, this book — so that we can make sense of the whole thing.”

[...] Since Seth discusses this himself in the session, I’ll let him carry on from here.)

Our own tests gave me a standard against which to measure my performance and Seth’s, providing an immediate check of accuracy and teaching me to sharpen my subjective focus to go from the general to the specific. All of this training was important as far as my reception of the Seth Material itself was concerned. Seth has often spoken about the necessary distortions that must occur in any such communications, and he is most concerned that the material be as little contaminated by distortions as possible. [...]

We were in the middle of a Seth session and Seth was giving his impressions of the Gallaghers’ trip. As I sat in my favorite rocker speaking as Seth, suddenly I found myself in the back seat of a cab. [...]

[...] Later, Seth was to give us instructions. As a matter of fact, as I write this book, Rob and I are just starting a joint series of projection experiments that Seth initiated. These first instances greatly increased my confidence in Seth’s abilities and my own.

[...] On occasion Seth and I can take turns talking so that I can go in and out of trance in seconds. Sometimes it seems I merge with Seth, feeling his emotions and reactions completely, rather than my own. [...] Other times, though less seldom, I am in the foreground and Seth advises me as to what to say.

To this end, through Ruburt, I am producing the continuing body of the Seth material, and books, each in a different way geared to these goals. In my present book, The Nature of Personal Reality: A Seth Book, I am including techniques that will allow you and thousands of others to use these ideas in normal daily living, to enrich the life that you know and to help you understand and solve your problems.

(Seth’s joking remarks about “the book” refer to this one. In some recent deleted material he had discussed Jane’s initial uncertainty about signing a contract for the publication of psychic work before it had been produced. [...]

(Tonight I asked Jane if Seth would deliver his promised letter for correspondents. [...]

(The circumstances surrounding Jane’s delivery of Seth’s Preface, while she was in trance, are given in the 685th session for February 25, 1974, in Section 1. After a break midway through the session, Seth began the material below at 10:57 P.M. He always indicates each word, phrase, or sentence to be underlined. This time he also called out each paragraph as he went along, and some of the other punctuation; to show Seth’s own sense of organization on such occasions, I’ve left a few of his instructions in place in the first three paragraphs.)

NOTES: PREFACE BY SETH

(The following may be one of those incidents from Framework 2 that Seth advised being on the lookout for: Last week I rather seriously thought of ordering a copy of The Origin of Ccs In the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind by Jaynes. [...] I’ve been curious about it ever since it was published —last year, I believe—for from the reviews printed of it I believe it contains some material that may be a distorted version of Seth’s “sleepwalker” material in Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality.

[...] Today, then, the mail brought a copy of the book from a fan that sent it as a gesture, remarking about certain similarities it contains with some of Seth’s material. [...]

(Jane told me as we sat for the session tonight that she’d had some hints from Seth that the session would be on faith. [...]

[...] Now she told me that Seth’s recent prediction that her eyes would show noticeable improvement shortly has evidently come to pass; she wanted me to note that here. [...]

The session had been an impromptu one, and developed on our last night in Marathon because we’d been worrying about our goals in life, and how significant a part the Seth material might play in our affairs. [...] The Seth Material had been published in mid-1970, but sales were slow, and Seth Speaks wasn’t out yet; we’d just finished correcting the page proofs for that work. [...]

[...] For in it Seth not only discussed the body’s natural defenses and how it “immunizes itself,” but also examined our negative cultural beliefs about the body and disease. We think his material is so good that it deserves more than one reading.

1. When Seth came through with “You get what you concentrate upon,” I remembered that he’d first spoken that sentence some years ago — and that soon afterward I’d made a little paper sign bearing those words and taped it to a wall in one of the two apartments we occupied in Elmira, New York. [...] From our records I learned that I’d taken Seth’s quotation from a personal session Jane held while we were on vacation in Marathon, a resort community in the Florida Keys.

[...] Yet within reason man is biologically capable of assimilating such materials, and using them to his advantage.

[...] He didn’t advocate doing anything like an operation, and his advice was consistent with Seth’s material yesterday. [...]

[...] At 4:13 Jane resumed with material she’d told me yesterday that Seth planned to cover today.)

5. Jane has worked with Tam ever since he encouraged her to write The Seth Material 13 years ago; that book was published a year later, in 1970. [...] As a result, Jane and I have arranged that upon our deaths our estate—including the Seth material—goes to the Manuscripts and Archives division of the Library. My plan in the meantime has been to transfer copies of as much of our work as possible to Manuscripts and Archives, so that the material can be indexed and made available to researchers and to the public. [...]

I can’t note the same for The Magical Approach to Reality: A Seth Book—the very promising work that Jane and I first discussed a year and a half ago [in August 1980], after Seth had started his group of excellent private sessions on that subject.⁸ I watched Jane try to write the book a number of times; last month, in Note 6 for Session 939 [in this chapter], I finally expressed the opinion that she wouldn’t finish the job. [...] I think Magical Approach would have been a fine book as she planned it—but that it ended up squelched by at least two major factors: She was too inhibited by the subject matter [her physical symptoms] out of which the magical approach material had grown, and she was bothered because she had chosen to emulate the plodding way in which I put together the Seth books. [...]

[...] These include the thousands of pages of the Seth material, regular and deleted [or private]; Jane’s and my own journals and other miscellaneous manuscripts, written records, and notes; ESP class tapes; some of Jane’s poetry and art, and some photographs of each of us. [...]

[...] Once again, I refer the reader to Seth’s excellent material on violence as quoted in Note 2 for Session 933.

‘The last books are on the Seth Material,’ I continue, watching them. ‘Do you know about Seth yet?’

The following excerpts from the Seth Material will explain probable systems more clearly, and relate probable selves with dream experience.

Here Seth turns to me and to some others who now appear in the room. Neither Jane or Rob see Seth or the others, although Seth is gesturing and his voice is audible, at least to me.

[...] Seth is still discussing probabilities in his own book, so we don’t have all the answers, by any means. One night, Rob asked Seth how our own egos had changed as a result of our sessions, however, and Seth used the question as an opportunity to give us more information about personality and probable selves.

(Jane had remarked the other day that she thought Seth would talk about her reaction to class and the mail—topics discussed in the opening notes for the last session. I was also still thinking about her reaction to the sessions themselves: the idea that she could feel inferior to Seth and/or the material was, as I noted, a pretty new one for me, and somewhat surprising. [...]

(In some way portions of Seth’s material tonight triggered an awareness of my own—not a new one, yet it seemed somehow that it was quite significant. [...]

(I suggested now that Seth talk about Jane’s very uncomfortable state concerning her backside, hips and legs. [...] She finally felt Seth around at 9:55. [...]

(So here again, we have a reference to Jane’s possible feelings about Seth and what he does, regardless of whether his labors may be eventually published as “a Seth book.” [...]

(In my original and unpublished notes in Session 520 in Seth Speaks I listed three chances for the fruition of Seth’s prediction: The mention in Cosmopolitan of Jane’s ESP book for April 1970; Tam’s news about New American Library being very interested in the Seth material book; or Jane’s contract for the dream book being in the mail from Prentice-Hall.)

(On the evening of April 2, while brushing her teeth, Jane got this flash from Seth: “You need to relearn the joy of physical achievement.”)

[...] The physical motion is obviously the materialization of inner willingness, but you must also set up the opportunity for this to happen. [...]

[...] John heard Seth’s voice in warning one time when with June Fleming, and heeded the caution. This material is on record in the sessions.

(John verified Seth’s material regarding his wife, Mary Ellen. [...]

(John said Seth’s description of a younger man with a Slavic face and short prickly hair fits Bob Dineen, another salesman also present at the Rochester meeting. [...] Seth had given him black or brown hair.

(“Good evening, Seth.”

[...] “I was getting a lot of other stuff, too, but it doesn’t belong in the book so Seth didn’t say it,” Jane told me, “about different people we met during the flood thing.” Since she had spoken quite steadily throughout her delivery, I began to speculate about some interesting questions: Was it possible for her to experience two channels “at once” from Seth? [...] Or even if her awareness had alternated between the two, why hadn’t this interfered with her spoken material?

[...] They found themselves alone with the Seth material, their paintings, and other manuscripts of Ruburt’s. They had been using a mild version of self-hypnosis to produce a calmness and reduce any panic. [...]

(“Good evening, Seth.”

Now: Dictation: Ruburt and Joseph (as Seth calls Jane and me) have always seen themselves in a one-to-one relationship with nature and with the universe. [...]

(In the opening notes for Session 852 I wrote that starting with the 846th session for April 4, “Seth has been dictating material for Mass Events on Wednesday evenings only.” [...] I took it upon myself to present material from two Monday night sessions — 853 and 855.

(Earlier tonight Jane had picked up from Seth some of his material for the session, should she decide to hold it.)

(When I told her she’d delivered an excellent, often impassioned session, Jane said she’d written half a page this morning that sounded a lot like Seth’s material. [...]

[...] These were triggered, I believe, as I looked over Seth’s material on counterparts in Volume 2 of “Unknown” Reality, and by his material on my Roman captain life in the same period, as he gave it in the deleted session for Sept. [...]

[...] I asked that Seth possibly comment tonight. [...]

[...] Some time may be involved physically for the materialization, but in usual terms the foreshortening effect can be quite startling, for time is affected and used in an entirely different fashion. [...]

(As Seth-Jane delivered this material, my mind flashed back many years to a summer day when I was about eleven years old. [...]

[...] She was eager to have me read Seth’s material back to her, but then: “Oh, wait a minute… I’m already starting to get more, and I want to get up and move around first.” [...]

[...] This does not necessarily imply physical force, but instead the power of energy directed into a material action.

[...] You may pretend that such material is hidden but it is quite within your conscious awareness. [...]
